Missin My Tinsel posted a 220 score with a huge stumble in the first stop. She showed she was as game as any of the boys. Mr Masota Star came to the party and posted a 222.5. Sam Flarida Earns Team USA Berth

July 10, 2017 – Sam Flarida and Footwork Revolution have been named to the Platinum Performance Team USA Junior Rider Team which will be vying for the World Championship in Switzerland early in the month of August. Sam rode two horses in a Team Qualifier during the CNYRHA Ride N Slide show in early June. He won the qualifier aboard Katsy Leeman’s Footwork Revolution, which earned him a spot on the Junior Rider team.

Sam Flarida & Footwork Revolution

Having just turned 14, Sam is one of the youngest riders on the team but also one with a great deal of experience. He is a three time OQHA Quarter Horse Congress Champion, the 2016 AQHYA 13 & Under Reining World Champion, as well as a NRHA Non Pro Futurity finalist. His partner on this adventure is equally decorated. Footwork Revolution has over $100,000 in NRHA earnings in Open and Non Pro competition. Katsy Leeman won the 2015 NRHA Non Pro Derby Level 1 & 2 championship as well as the 2016 AQHA Amateur Reining reserve world championship.

Another rider from Shawn Flarida Reiners also qualified for the Championships. Emilia Ruetimann and Black Hails Gold, owned by her mother Lisa, qualified for the team with her showing at the 2017 NRBC. Emilia and “Hailer” are a new team but have meshed very quickly with wins at the NRBC and NRHA Derby. Black Hails Gold had a very successful career as an Open horse before being purchased by the Ruetimann family. He has NRHA earnings of over $146,000 and placed third in the 2014 NRHA Futurity.

2016 NRHA Futurity

December, 2017 – The NRHA Futurity is one of our favorite shows of the year and this year it was special for a number of reasons. First, Whiz Gata Prize, owned by Alberto Casasco, earned the Level 4 Open co-reserve championship. Shawn also made the finals aboard Luckie Moonstone, owned by Jason Dobrinski. I was proud to lead the composite following the second go round aboard Luckie Moonstone and be second riding Whiz Gata Prize. I am looking forward to showing both of these great horses in 2017. The second reason the event was special was because it was the first time my youngest son, Sam, brought a non pro futurity finalist to OKC. Sam did a great job showing his horse and made the Level 1 & 2 finals.

I was also excited to participate in the Silver Spurs Open Reining Challenge. I was selected by Andrea Fappani to be a member of his team riding Tinseltown Fly Guy. Our individual run finished fourth in the Open class and we were members of the winning team.

Patricia had another winner this year, as Shawn piloted Tinseltown Fly Guy to win the NRHA Open class 225. This year he teamed up with Magnum Chic Dunit to win the Open class as well as head up the winning team with a score of 218. Shawn was a member of two teams, which placed first and second. Team Clark Oil consisted of Shawn, Rick Clark and Steve Borgia. Although Shawn has won the open division each year, this was the first time he has won the team competition as well.

2015 Gordyville Breeders Derby

March 2015 – We brought home all sorts of trophies from the Gordyville Breeders Derby this year. Our week started off pretty well with Steve Borgia winning the Level 3 & 4 Non Pro 7 & Up event aboard Electric Starlight. AQHA Showdown In Cowtown

March 2015 – AQHA celebrated it’s 75th Anniversary with a unique display of the versatility of the American Quarter Horse billed as the Showdown In Cowtown. Of course, you can’t get a bunch of horse trainers together without generating a little competition so it’s no surprise they were all in it to win. Shawn had the unique opportunity to team up with one of his NRHA Futurity champions, Smart Spook, to represent reining at the event. At 14 years old, Spook proved he still had the moves as he and Shawn marked a 222 to win the reining event.

2015 Florida Classic

February 2015 – One of our favorite shows each year is the Florida Classic, Tampa, FL. It is a great opportunity to escape the cold Ohio winter and enjoy some sunshine in February. Shawn won the Level 4 Open Derby aboard George Lawrence’s Wimpys Littlecolonel. Click here to watch their winning run in Tampa. Katsy Leeman earned the Non Pro Derby Level 1 & 2 reserve championships on her new horse, Footwork Revolution.

Wimpys Littlecolonel

It was a great maiden voyage for Sam Flarida and his new mount, Wrighteous Man. They had a great debut, marking a 72.5 to win the Youth 13 & Under. We are looking for great things from this talent pair!

2014 NRHA Futurity

December 6, 2014 -Spook N Shine, owned by Clark Reining Horses LLC, and Shawn were crowned the NRHA Open Futurity co-champions!  The stunning sorrel stallion just got better every time he was shown in the go-rounds and saved his best performance for the Saturday night finals. Purchased by Clark Reining Horses LLC at the Futurity the previous year, Shine N Spook made a triumphant return to OKC. Magnum Chic Dunit also earned a finals berth and placed 20th in a very deep finals. This was Shawn’s 6th Futurity championship, which has tied him with Bob Loomis for the most futurity titles.

Spook N Shine

PS A Whizzen Chic, owned by Patsy Schutz, began her quest for a NRHA World Championship a little later than most. Her first Novice Horse outing was at the NRHA Derby in June, where she swept both classes. She matched through the rest of the summer and fall collecting wins and wrapped up her show season with a win at the NRHA Futurity & Championship show.

2014 AQHA World Show

November 2014 – With just a few months to get to know each other, Shawn and Wimpys Littlecolonel headed to the AQHA World Championship Show. Wimpys Littlecolonel came to Ohio already qualified for the world show, so all Shawn had to do was get him to Oklahoma City for the big event. They handily qualified for the clean slate finals and despite a few “getting to know each other” bobbles, earned the Reserve World Championship. The handsome palomino stallion is proudly owned by George Lawrence, TX.

2014 All American Quarter Horse Congress

October 2014 – The group from Shawn Flarida Reiners was very busy at the Congress this year, and lot of that time was spent in the winners circle. Yankee Gun was a winner again, this time in the $3000 NRHA Open class with a score of 226.5 for new owner Gennaro Lendi, Italy. Click here to watch his run.

With three in the Open Futurity finals, Shawn was a busy guy! He earned the reserve championship aboard Wood Be Vintage, placing fifth on Shine N Spook and 13th aboard Magnum Chic Dunit winning over $32,000. Wood Be Vintage is owned by Micky Petty and Maggie Buey, Shine N Spook is owned by Clark Reining Horses LLC and Magnum Chic Dunit is owned by Arcese Quarter Horses USA.

Wood Be Vintage

Steve Borgia and Electric Starlight continued their winning ways with a big win in the AQHA Amateur Reining. They posted as score of 224 to take the win. Katsy Leeman was back in the winners circle at the Congress, but this was her first win on a reiner. The multiple congress western pleasure champion earned her first reining Congress title aboard Nestle Swhiz Choclat in the Rookie 2 division. Bridgette White slid in to second place in the Rookie class aboard Gallo Del Rojo.

Katsy Leeman

Shawn continued his domination of the Novice Horse Open Level 2 division by picking up the Congress championship aboard PS A Whizzen Chic. This fancy mare has quickly moved to the top of the Novice Top Ten standings. Karen Shedlauskas and Great Red Cielo earned the Non Pro Reining Stakes Level 2 co-reserve championship and placed tied for fifth in the Level 3. Ann Admonius and Wimpys Tonnob were the Congress reserve champions in the Intermediate Non Pro and the Prime Time Non Pro class. They also placed fifth in the Non Pro and third in the AQHA Amateur Reining class.

2014 World Equestrian Games

Normandy, FRA, August 26-30 – This was Shawn’s third trip to the World Equestrian Games, and reining events have only been hosted four times in the last 12 years. Shawn won the very first gold team and individual medals aboard San Jo Freckles, and then came back to lead the team to the podium with gold again in 2010 aboard RC Fancy Step. In 2014, he qualified for Team USA aboard Spooks Gotta Whiz and went to France as the gold medal favorites. As always, this fancy duo did not disappoint.

Showing in the anchor draw for Team USA, Shawn and Spooks Gotta Whiz cemented the team gold medal with an impressive score of 229. His fellow team mates, Andrea Fappani, Mandy McCutcheon and Jordan Larson also showed well and had the team in the gold medal position before Shawn ever showed. The entire team qualified for the seeded individual finals, including the two alternates. Because the finals were seeded, Andrea Fappani was the second to last to show and Shawn had the last draw.

The drag just before Shawn’s draw was agonizing to wait through, just ask Shawn or crowd of reining fans waiting for him to show. Shawn and Spooks Gotta Whiz did not disappoint their fans and put down a record setting run to earn the Individual gold medal with a score of 233.5. “He is an amazing athlete,” Shawn said about Spooks Gotta Whiz. “He tried so hard for me this week and I knew I could count on him.” Watch his finals run here.

2014 Clayton Woosley Hall of Fame Reining

Yankee Gun

July 24-28, 2014 – We always enjoy the Clayton Woosley Hall of Fame Reining and Darling 888 Ranch Derby, partially because it is close to home at the Kentucky Horse Park. This year we brought a large group of horses and clients to the show and enjoyed quite a bit of success. Shawn won the Open Level 4 Derby for the second consecutive year. This year he was riding Yankee Gun, owned by Arcese Quarter Horses USA. They marked a 230.5 to earn the championship! Click here to watch his run.

Electric Stalight

As draw #1, Steve Borgia and Electric Starlight posted a big score of 224.5 to take a very early lead. But that lead to a very long wait for the results. His great run held up through a huge class of talented horses and riders with Steve & “Homer” earning the championship in Levels 4-2. Great job Steve!

2014 NRHA Derby

June 28, 2014 – Shawn rode Tinseltown Fly Guy and Yankee Gun to the Level 4 Open finals and both horses earned nice paychecks. It isn’t often that Shawn shows in a Category 1 class, but this year he thought the Novice Horse Open Level 2 would be a perfect fit for one of his favorite mares, PS A Whizzen Chic. Their first outing in the Novice class was at the Derby where they tied to win the $1000 Novice Horse Open Level 1 class the first day and then came back with a decisive win in the $2000 added class the next day. Karen Shedlauskas and Hickorys Baylite took home the bronze in the $2000 Novice Horse Non Pro Level 2 class for the second consecutive year at the Derby.

Hickorys Baylite

Katsy Leeman had to do it twice to capture the win, but her determination definitely showed in the run off. Riding Nestle Swhiz Chocolat, Leeman earned the Slate #2 Rookie 1 & 2 Championships. Bridgette White and Gallo Del Rojo won the same classes the day before. These girls dominated the Derby Rookie competition!

Katsy Leeman & Bridgette White dominate the Rookie competition

2014 Kentucky Reining Cup

April 25-27, 2014 – For the fourth consecutive year, Shawn topped the Kentucky Reining Cup podium. This year he was riding Michell Anne Kimball’s Spooks Gotta Whiz, with the aim of qualifying for the 2014 USA World Equestrian Games reining team. Their composite score of 452.5 points topped both go rounds of the event and earned them the USEF/Adequan US Reining National Championship. It was as if this duo picked up right were the finished the 2012 show season – in the winners circle. Spooks Gotta Whiz, or Baby, will remain in Ohio with Shawn until they travel to France in August for the WEG.

Shawn and Michele Flarida are excited to announce the dates for their 2014 Flarida Farm Clinics. Although we strived to add a third clinic this year, Shawn’s show schedule was just too full with the addition of the World Equestrian Games this year. Our first clinic will be held May 29-31, 2014 and the second event will be September 25-27, 2014. Please email for more information and reservation forms.

Spooks Gotta Whiz

March 15, 2014 – The Bluegrass Reining Stakes, featuring the Wimpys Little Step & Gordyville Breeders Classic derbies, sent us home with several trophies and a lot of good memories. Shawn topped the Open Level 4 Wimpys Little Step & Gordyville Breeders Classic derbies on Fritz Leeman’s Tinseltown Fly Guy with a score of 229. He also test drove Spooks Gotta Whiz before the April WEG qualifier in the Spooks Gotta Whiz 7 & Up derby on Friday evening. Shawn and “Baby Spooks” marked a 229 to win the horse’s name sake event.

Tinseltown Fly Guy

Molly Morganstern and RC Fancy Step continued their winning ways in 7 & Up competition by earning the Spooks Gotta Whiz 7 & Up Non Pro Level 2 division with a score of 215.5. Their solid performance also earned checks in the Non Pro Levels 4 and 3 of the 7 & Up class. Katsy Leeman rode her new horse, Nestle Swhiz Choclat, to win the $1000 Novice Horse Non Pro Level 2 on Thursday and then went on to pick up checks in the Non Pro Level 1 & 2 divisions of the Wimpys Little Step and Gordyville Breeders Classic derbies. Watch for more from this team when Katsy is done with school next month.

Although Rick Clark’s responsibilities as NRHA Vice President are keeping him very busy these days, he took time to show his very talented 4 year old gelding, Wallas Knockout in the derby this weekend. They put together a very nice run and Rick is looking forward to showing him more this year as time permits.

Sam Flarida showed his new horse , Check This Dually, for the first time and placed second in the Youth 13 & Under. This is Sam’s first year in the 13 & Under which means he had to make the transition from showing 2 handed (as allowed in the short stirrup division) to showing one handed. He has worked really hard at making this change and learning about his new horse. Watch for Sam & Scooby Doo in more 13 & Under competition this year.

Sam Flarida & Check This Dually

March 1, 2014 – Shawn and his crew got the 2014 show season with a big win at the FRHA Florida Reining Classic. Flarida assistant Vincenzio Santos, captured the Limited Open class win aboard Whiz N West Coast, owned by Ann Admonius.

December 7, 2013 – One of the most exciting moments during the futurity finals on Saturday night was the announcement that Shawn had surpassed the Five Million Dollar mark in NRHA earnings. He is the first rider to hit this amazing milestone and continues to be NRHA’s leading rider. Going into the finals he needed a little over $14,000 to hit the mark and his reserve champion paycheck of over $142,000 pushed him over with room to spare!

2013 NRHA Futurity

December 7, 2013 – The 2013 NRHA Futurity is always a long show and this year the extreme cold and icy weather made the event even more stressful than ever. However, that didn’t slow down the crew from Shawn Flarida Reiners! Shawn rode Tinseltowns Fly Guy, owned at the start of the show by Wagner & Vandorp, to the Open Level 4 Futurity Reserve Championship with a score of 224 and a paycheck of over $142,000. The dun stallion was purchased by Fritz Leeman Farms on Friday night before the finals and will remain under the guidance of Shawn.

Sam Flarida and Whittle Man Whizard also did a fine job of representing the Green Shirt in Oklahoma City. This competitive short stirrup team posted a score of 214 to place tie third in the Short Stirrup class at the NRHA Futurity & Championship show. Sam demonstrated a full array for Flarida showmanship skills to pilot his gelding through NRHA pattern 12.

2013 AQHA World Championship Show

November 18, 2013 – Shawn showed horses to the Junior and Senior Reining finals at the world show this year. One horse he only had a few rides to get to know and the other was an old friend. His first ride in the Saturday evening finals was Custom Whiz Kid, owned by David & Joy Buck, TX. They placed fifth in a very deep Junior Reining finals. Just a short time later, he showed RC Fancy Step, owned by Molly Morganstern, OH. He and RC have a long history and Shawn was excited to show him one more time. They finished seventh in an equally tough Senior Reining class. Next stop for Shawn Flarida Reiners is the NRHA futurity!

2013 Ariat Tulsa Classic

August 27-September 1, 2013 – It was a long hot week in Tulsa, but it was certainly worth the wait for Steve Borgia & Electric Starlight. Only their third trip the to the show pen and they dominated the SmartPak Non Pro Derby with a great score of 219.5. As draw #6 Steve and Shawn had to wait through another 70 horses to see if his score would be strong enough to stay at the top. It was well past 10 PM on Sunday night before they knew for sure, but everyone was all smiles following the award ceremony. Congratulation to Steve and Electric Starlight (AKA Homer) for sweeping all four divisions of the Non Pro Derby.
